Media Release

28 February 2024

Enoch Mgijima Municipality is taking proactive steps to enhance the quality of its roads by embarking on a pothole repair operation. This initiative, which commenced in January, was made possible by the Municipality’s acquisition of ample cold asphalt.

The decision to undertake this operation was prompted by the extensive damage caused to roads by heavy rains during the summer season. Existing potholes were further exacerbated by stormwater, necessitating immediate attention.

Furthermore, the Municipality has observed that the problem has been compounded by trucks illegally traversing streets where access is restricted, despite clear signage indicating such restrictions.

The pothole repair program is currently being implemented across various areas within EMLM, including Komani, Whittlesea, Molteno, and Tarkastad. The upcoming phase will focus on Hofmeyr and Sterkstroom.

To facilitate this initiative, the Municipality is utilizing its internal workforce and utilizing machinery for the production of cold asphalt to supplement the purchased materials.
