THEFT AND VANDALISM DELAY RESTORATION OF POWER SUPPLY IN KOMANI

Media Release

09/12/2024

In a recent incident, criminals in Komani broke into the recently refurbished Balmoral substation. Elements such as breakers and cables were all left wrecked due to botched theft.

The break-in occurred recently where criminals entered forcefully, breaking substation doors to gain entry.

This has caused a delay on the restoration of power supply for the Balmoral section in Top Town. Repair work is all but done but it is vital for the substation to be repaired and Protection to be installed in substations.

This incident follows a recent one in Westbourne where a cable was cut out and stolen, leaving some customers disconnected.

Theft and vandalism leave a strain on the Municipal budget as more replacement has to be procured. All major substations are now having security personnel to thwart all intruders. For a Municipality implementing a Financial Recovery Plan this has a negative impact.

The Municipality urges anyone with information on any theft and vandalism incident to anonymously report it at the Municipality.
