The cold winter season has led to an increased demand for electricity, causing power outages in various areas within the Enoch Mgijima Municipality. To address these power failures, the Municipality has implemented the following measures:

*Mlungisi*

– A new line is under construction to reduce the load on the Mlungisi substation. This will provide Aloevale, Victoria Park, and Sabatha with a new power source from the Komani Hospital substation, which is primarily fed by the Ebden substation. The project is 95% complete.

– Nkululekweni and Melton Gardens are now receiving power from the Western substation, rather than the Mlungisi substation.

*Ezibeleni*

– A protection specialist has been appointed to test and commission the Neutral Earthing Resistor (NER) at the Ezibeleni substation. This will enhance the power supply to Unathi Mkefa and provide more reliable electricity to Ezibeleni residents.

*Molteno*

– Power supply disruptions have been caused by a tripping transformer. The contractor currently working on the Ezibeleni substation will address the Molteno transformer once the Ezibeleni task is complete.

We urge communities to help combat illegal connections and tampering, which significantly contribute to high electricity usage. The Municipal technical team remains available to address individual faults that may occur due to the cold weather.
