MEDIA RELEASE
20/02/2024
All pre-paid meter customers will undergo Token Identifier (TID) changeover to align with new technologies. This is a necessary and compulsory changeover that must be done between now and 24 November 2024. The change is mainly necessitated by the expiry of the current Standard Transfer Specification (SPS) technology whose meters will stop dispensing electricity in November.
Any tokens generated after this date and utilizing the 24-digit TID, calculated on base date 1993, will be rejected by the meters as being old tokens as the TID value encoded in the token will have reset back to 0.
Enoch Mgijima Municipality has begun the campaign to ensure that the prepayment meters are reset by 24 November 2024 through theTID rollover process.
The change to new tokens is simple and customers are expected to purchase electricity credits from the Municipality or any vendors and enter the new digits. Instructions are simple and all customers will be able to do the change over without any assistance.
The TID changeover will begin on 1 March and will be implemented per area according to the Municipal schedule. Both residential and business customers are implored to participate in the process.
Customers using the recently-installed smart meters will not need to undergo the changeover process as smart meters are compliant with the new technology.
