Date: 15 October 2024
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality in partnership with organised business, wishes to advise and remind all local business owners of the mandatory requirement to pay for their business licenses and trading permits.
In line with Circular 88 of the National Department of Treasury and Schedule B of the Constitution, municipality’s responsibility is to record the number of business licenses issued quarterly. Municipality is embarking on an awareness campaign aimed at ensuring compliance. This comes after a meeting held on 4 October 2024 between the Municipality and local business leadership which highlighted the importance of ensuring all businesses have the necessary licenses.
To improve the business licensing process, lessons, challenges, and key actions were discussed. One of the key outcomes of the meeting is the need for local businesses to comply with the municipality’s requirements by paying for and renewing their business licenses.
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality will be publishing a notice in the local newspaper to further encourage businesses to meet their legal obligations. This is part of a broader campaign to consolidate municipal business licensing and support local economic growth.
Municipality is urging all business owners to come forward and ensure they are operating in compliance with local regulations. Failure to comply could result in penalties and disruptions to business operations.
