The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality is actively addressing the significant electricity outage affecting Top Town. Following a major fault that occurred over two weeks ago, the Municipality has engaged specialised contractors to expedite repairs, including a firm focused on electrical protection to assist with testing and repairs of breakers and related technical issues.

The Municipality has identified that the primary cause of the outage is outdated infrastructure, particularly aging cables.

Progress Made So Far:

– Cable-jointing has been conducted for identified faults.

– Old cables have been replaced.

– Two additional feeders for Top Town have been restored.

– Comprehensive testing and meggering of electrical infrastructure have been performed.

– Eskom has been enlisted to provide their expertise, specifically in enhancing protection measures at substations and mini-substations.

Currently, teams are deployed across various sites to rectify faults and restore power supply as swiftly as possible.

We acknowledge the negative impact that this electricity outage has on local businesses and the community. The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality sincerely apologises to all affected residents and reaffirms its commitment to resolving this issue promptly.
